Algona, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The defendant in a vehicular homicide case – identified by a Mason City tv station as a resident of Spencer – has pled innocent. Kai-Remington Raymond Pearce, 18-years-old, entered the written plea Thursday. He is charged with reckless driving leading to a death in July of last year, when he allegedly failed to stop at the Highway 18 and 160th Avenue intersection one mile East of Algona.

His car was struck by a motorcycle operated by 42-year-old Adam Allen of Pocahontas who was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial accident report identified the driver of the car as a 17-year-old from Ackley and said he had been airlifted to the hospital in Mason City with serious injuries.

Investigators say Pearce was texting and attempting facetime calls just before the accident occurred.

At this point a trial is scheduled for December 16th.
