Ward Vacancy in Estherville

Estherville, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Estherville is down another council member. Earlier this year Dave Seyler moved out of Ward 3 and had to relinquish his seat. Now 4th Ward councilwoman Ann Goebel has moved and resigned effective November 1st.

The Ward 4 seat is on today’s ballot and only Steve Fanslau filed. At City Manager Penny Clayton’s recommendation last night the council voted to swear in the winner of today’s election at their next council meeting.

Nobody filed for the vacant Ward 3 seat so the winner must be determined by write-in.

At-large councilman David Hovinga and Ward 2 councilwoman Julie Clark are seeking re-election.

1st Ward councilman Tony Condon is the lone candidate for Mayor. In the likely event he is elected the council will have to determine how to fill the Ward 1 vacancy.
