Wolves Bring Home a Trophy from State Golf

Newton, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – It was a big year for the Harris-lake Park Boys Golf team, taking 3rd at the IHSAA Class 1A State Championships in Newton.

Nate Goodell, a sophomore for the Wolves, knew this team could be special right away.

The Wolves advanced past the sectional meet hosted by George-Little Rock, getting another step closer to the team goal of making it to state. Camden Vant Hul, a freshman, was excited for the next step.

Beckett Rahe talked about the rewarding experience of advancing out of a tough District Tournament in Lake Mills.

The Class 1A State championships were played at Newton’s Westwood Golf Course. Caden Vant Hull said the hills provided quite the challenge.

The Boys State Golf Tournament is played in two seperate rounds. The wolves actually led the 1A field after Day 1. Wyatt Wittrock was asked how Harris-Lake Park built on their first day’s successes.

After the second round of action, Seth Goodell took 10th with +12 to Par. Camden Vant Hul was right behind him in 11th with a +12 to Par overall and a +9 on the second round. Wyatt Wittrock tied for 19th with a 15 above Par. Nate Goodell tied for 21st at 16 over Par. Caden Vant Hul tied for 37th at 24 over Par, and Beckett Rahe was tied for 42nd with a 27 over Par.

Harris-Lake Park took 3rd with a team score of 55 over Par, only a stroke behind State Runner-Up South Winneshiek and 10 behind State Champions Boyden-Hull.

H-LP Coach Lucas Gunderson, who had a lot of success himself in the early 2020s playing golf for the Wolves, talked about the 2026 team bringing home a trophy.
