Graettinger, IA (KICD)– Crews from multiple fire departments worked to contain a fire at the landfill near Graettinger Tuesday evening.

The Northern Plains Regional Landfill was purchased by the City of Spencer in 2002. City administrator Amanda Mack tells KICD News she was informed that one of the cells was on fire around 5:30 Tuesday.

The landfill crew and contractors remained on site to do what they could, but the Graettinger and Emmetsburg fire departments were dispatched and the blaze was reported out shortly before 8 o’clock with one crew remaining behind to monitor hot spots. There were no injuries at the scene and the cause of the fire is unknown.
